Member Spotlight - Ironworkers Credit Union

Anthony– Portland

Thirty-nine years ago, Anthony’s grandfather, an ironworker and window glazier, set up an account for him at Ironworkers USA Federal Credit Union. Through the years, his grandfather would make deposits into the account for special occasions instead of giving him the money directly. When Anthony was old enough, his grandfather gifted the account to him. “I literally got grandfathered in.”

This financial foundation gave Anthony a strong start. “I used the credit union to get my first loan ever for my motorcycle, it was around $5,000. They gave me a super low interest rate, and I paid the loan off in three years, which boosted my credit,” said Anthony. Shortly after, Anthony took out another loan for his truck. “Working with the credit union over a bank was so much better,” he said.

Anthony also uses direct deposit for his checks so he can easily access his money when needed. “Recently, the credit union had a great certificate of deposit (CD) option. I called and said, ‘I honestly don’t know what I’m doing. Can you help?’ and the office knew exactly what to do.”

After getting some good advice from the credit union, Anthony decided to put his hard-earned savings into a CD account, and he’s happy he did. “BOOM! I let it mature and gain interest and then was able to put my original money, plus the extra I earned on it, back into my checking account.”

With the help of his grandfather and the credit union, Anthony is excited about the future. “I want to start pushing for the good in life, and Ironworkers USA Federal Credit Union has been incredibly helpful in reaching that goal.”
