CELEBRATING OUR MILESTONES & OUR FUTURE
This year marks a major milestone for Ironworkers USA Credit Union: our 65th anniversary! Since opening our doors in 1960, we have been honored to serve the hardworking men and women of the ironworking community. This anniversary is not just a celebration of our history, but also a moment to reflect on our journey, our achievements, and the exciting road ahead.
A LEGACY OF SERVICE
Our story began with a simple yet powerful mission: to provide financial services tailored to the unique needs of ironworkers for economic stability. Over the years, that mission has remained our guiding light. From helping members save for their families’ futures to offering fair loans for critical needs, we have always believed in putting people first. Our commitment to the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” has driven everything we do.
KEY MILESTONES
Reflecting on the past 65 years, we’re proud of the milestones we’ve achieved together. Here are just a few highlights:
1960: Lyle Eller (President of Ironworkers Local 29) and John O’Halloran (Business Agent) gathered 12 ironworkers and two cigar boxes–one for deposits and one for loans–to create a financial institution dedicated to the unique needs of ironworkers. In just over a month, they had 255 accounts with over $26K in savings.
1985: The Ironworkers 29 Federal Credit Union became a self-supporting financial institution with more than $1 million in assets. Lyle Eller retired.
1998: Changed the name to Pacific Northwest Ironworkers Federal Credit Union, reflecting membership expansion to all ironworkers unions within the Pacific Northwest.
2010: Welcomed Teri Robinson as CEO, ushering in a period of remarkable growth and innovation with $7.5M in assets.
2018: Pacific Northwest Ironworkers Federal Credit Union becomes Ironworkers USA Federal Credit Union, allowing the CU to offer services to over 90,000 union ironworkers nationwide. Credit Union assets reach $31M.
2024: Expanded our membership to over 15,500—a testament to the strength of our community and $127M in assets thanks to the trust and loyalty of our members.
INNOVATION AND GROWTH
While we honor our history, we’re always looking forward. Over the years, we’ve embraced innovation to better serve our members. From introducing online and mobile banking to rolling out innovative loan products, we strive to make managing finances as convenient and stress-free as possible. Our team continually works on new ways to empower members with the tools and resources they need to succeed.
One of our proudest achievements has been expanding financial education initiatives. By offering workshops, training programs, and one-on-one counseling, we’ve helped countless members improve their financial literacy and gain control of their futures. These programs have not only improved individual lives but strengthened the entire ironworker community.
LOOKING AHEAD
As we celebrate our 65th anniversary, we remain focused on the future. We’re committed to continuing our legacy of service, innovation, and support. This means developing new ways to connect with our members, expanding our reach, and ensuring every ironworker has access to fair and reliable financial services.
Thank you to our incredible members for being part of our journey because together, we are stronger. Your trust and loyalty have been the foundation of our success, and we’re excited to keep building with you. Here’s to the next 65 years of making a difference in the lives of Ironworkers and their families!
