Jeff, Local 14, Spokane
Jeff’s experience is similar to that of Ironworkers USA Federal Credit Union members. He joined because he needed a little help.
“My friend got me into it when I noticed my PTO was getting sent there. I went to check it out as I needed a car and was told they help ironworkers get transportation,” he says. “And, to be honest, I had horrible credit.”
Jeff had tried “tons of other banks,” but none of them could get him into a car.
“I needed a vehicle, and no one else would help me with it,” he says. “The folks at Ironworkers USA Federal Credit Union were understanding about my whole situation. They weren’t judgemental about my credit score and were just there to try and get me out there so I could work. They were the first bank to try and get me to be better. You could tell they really cared.”
Thanks to the supportive team at Ironworkers USA Federal Credit Union, Jeff was able to obtain an auto loan and now utilizes their services for “everything.” In addition to his PTO fund and auto loan, he has a checking and savings account and a personal loan that he credits saved his dog’s life.
A few years ago, when his beloved dog was injured, he went straight to the credit union for help. “I already had a few loans out, but they gave me the loan right then and there. They saved her life, and she’s still around today.” Jeff says.
Ironworkers USA Federal Credit Union has always supported Jeff without judgment. He says, “Whenever I went in the credit union, I didn’t feel bad. I had horrible credit–I’m an ironworker–but they treated me with respect and genuinely cared. Most banks just say, ‘No, we can’t do that.’ The credit union is very personable and always trying to make it work for you. They are willing to give second chances and have a two-week grace period for making credit payments. For someone hungry to build their credit, they really want to help you. I’ve never been to a bank like it.”
When it comes to other ironworkers looking to join the credit union, Jeff’s endorsement is glowing. He says, “I’d tell them to join, for sure. I wouldn’t be able to get the services I’ve gotten there at any other bank. The interest rates are way better than other options. I recommend it to anyone because of how they treat you and try to give you the best rates. I know it’s money-driven, but it doesn’t feel money-driven. They’re trying to help and keep you out of trouble. It’s really cool.”
