Feed the Crew Without Spending Like You’re at the Stadium
Football season is better with good food, but feeding a full house can get expensive fast. Skip the stadium prices and make one hearty pot of chili that can feed the whole crew.
BIG GAME CHILI
You’ll need:
1 pound ground beef or turkey
1 small onion, diced
2 cans beans, drained and rinsed
1 can crushed tomatoes, about 28 ounces
1 can tomato sauce, about 15 ounces
1 cup water or broth
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Shredded cheese, green onions, or crackers for serving
Brown the meat and onion together in a large pot over medium heat until the meat is fully cooked. Drain any excess grease. Stir in the beans, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, water or broth, and seasonings.
Bring everything to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 25 to 30 minutes. Stir occasionally and add a little more water if the chili becomes thicker than you like.
Serve it with a few simple toppings and let everyone build their own bowl. Use whichever meat is on sale, or skip it and add another can of beans. The recipe feeds six to eight and can easily be doubled.
Save the leftovers for lunch, spoon them over baked potatoes, or turn them into nachos the next day. One pot, two meals, and no stadium price tag. That’s a game day win!
